NEW FH TITLE IN GERMANY: Jens reports he and Maggie enjoyed sharing two (very large!) serves of good, old fashioned Apfelstrudel with lots of whipped cream, firstly to celebrate Maggie’s (and the Nordenstamm M-litters) 2nd birthday AND for taking out High in Trial track for FH1 (91 points!) at SV Wardenburg under SV Judge A. Kilian!

In a few short months Jens and “Maggie” aka NORDENSTAMM MAGNIFIQUE A.I. (Baxter Ostraryka x Nordenstamm Ellie A.I.) have earned BH, IGP3, FH1 & IAD. Maggie also took out the High in Trial in all 3 of her IGP 1-3 trials; all trials were under SV judges.

NEW RECRUIT returns to the Nordenstamm stable!  Welcoming home the delectable NORDENSTAMM OTKA A.I. (Jaguar de Alphaville Bohemia x Nordenstamm Cougar.) We’ve been thrilled with our Jaguar babies and so glad we were able to snaffle this beauty back into the family fold!

NEW IGP TITLE IN GERMANY for Jens and NORDENSTAMM MAGNIFIQUE A.I. (Baxter Ostraryka x Nordenstamm Ellie A.I.) again achieving IGP3 (100-98-93 = 291 points) plus once more taking out High in Trial (Tagessieger) at SV OG-Papenburg’s with R. Zibler judging.  She got penalties when she missed one blind in the search and for a double command in the back transport, but all in all Jens says he’s delighted with her performance and reports, “mission accomplished some 8 weeks ahead of plan!”

New title for Alison and NORDENSTAMM LUCY LAWLESS A.I. (Jaguar de Alphaville Bohemia x Nordenstamm Crazee A.I.) passing her UPr3 title with a bit less than a bang (83 points GOOD) in what was wilting heat. Many thanks to the Judge, Cheryl Chaffey.  NB: Earlier scores for Lucy have been UPr1 = 93 points VERY GOOD; and UPr2 = 90 points VERY GOOD, under FCI judges Hans Ebbers (DVG/Germany) and Volker Sulimma (DVG/Germany) respectively. Many thanks to these judges.

NEW IGP2 TITLE IN GERMANY: Congratulations again Jens & NORDENSTAMM MAGNIFIQUE A.I. (Baxter Ostraryka x Nordenstamm Ellie A.I.) for achieving IGP2 (288 points) at SV Voslapp under Judge Ch. Groene-Seidel. “Maggie” was also High-in-Trial.

Congratulations Angelica, who is super thrilled to report successfully re-certifying Arrow (Nordenstamm Blackarrow) in the ASAR Fundamental Skills Assessments. The teams have been training hard over the last few months and yesterday it all paid off with great results across all elements, especially in the search component. Well done Angelica and Arrow and all her amazing Australian Search and Rescue K9 team mates!

In 2011 Barack Obama praised the Navy SEAL Belgian Shepherd (Cairo) that found Osama bin Laden and in 2019 another American President, Donald Trump, shares the podium with the Belgian Shepherd (Conan), praising the super dog as a hero in the operation that cornered and killed ISIS leader al-Baghdadi! Closer to home and also in 2011, the SAS Military Working Dog NORDENSTAMM JOEP aka “Kuga” (Zico v.d. Berlex-Hoeve IPO3, FH x Aust. Grand National Champion Nordenstamm Hannah i.i.u Belgium, IPO3, FH) was wounded in action while saving his platoon from an ambush in Afghanistan. The stress the injuries and recovery process proved too much, and “Kuga” died in July 2012.  He became the first Australian dog to be awarded the Dickin Medal for animal gallantry and in 2018 the Victoria Cross recipient and former military dog handler Mark Donaldson VC accepted this Medal of Honour on Kuga’s behalf.

Congratulations Natasha with NORDENSTAMM BINDI (Nordenstamm Waldo x Nordenstamm Tess) for winning the National Intermediate Agility class in New Zealand. The team also won the very large Gamblers C class.

Nathan reports “Tiger” aka NORDENSTAMM NAPOLEON A.I. (Baxter Ostraryka x Nordenstamm Crazee A.I.) did a great piece of man trailing from a car that was broken into, straight up the road to where another car was broken into 100m away! Not only a nose work champ, “Tiger” is also a bird dog used in hunting for retrieving ducks.

Happy 6th birthday to Agility champs, NORDENSTAMM ANNIKA and ALANI – exported to Hawaii, now with Michelle and John in Texas. Happy birthday to all the NORDENSTAMM A-litter (Nordenstamm Tex i.i.i. GMY, IPO3 x Nordenstamm Sanka i.i.u. GMY, IPO3, FH)! The litter had multiple working champions and working titled dogs: ASKA (TDX/TCH, UD, GD-Agility, ARUBA (BH), ALEX (certified Dual Purpose Police K9 + detection dog (USA) & ATHENA (Agility.)

Spent a weekend at the Alice Spring Correctional Prisons assisting handlers with the development of two A.I. youngsters sired by Jaguar de Alphaville Bohemia IPO3, FH, Czech. National Champion x Nordenstamm Callie A.I., BH, MAT, GPr.1.

Happy puppy buyers in Ally at her new puppy, NORDENSTAMM ODESSEY A.I. (Jaguar de Alphaville Bohemia x Nordenstamm Cougar A.I.)  At only 9 weeks Ally writes of her, “she been here a week now, and we just love her to bits! She is so smart. We went out and about this morning to get some culture and atmosphere. She took it all in her stride. She is learning her recall, and has sit down like a pro, went on her first escalator ride, loves the tug, and has a great bite. She is amazing!”

Jens and NORDENSTAMM MAGNIFIQUE aka “Maggie” travel to Germany to train and trial Maggie to her IGP1-3 & FH titles.  The team are working with former colleagues, Wassilios Broumas & Klaus Malion. Visiting Jens this month have been Working Malinois Australia’s Vice-President, Karen Moore, and her partner Konrad Rustermeyer, currently taking holidays in Germany.

NEW TITLES FOR NORDENSTAMM BLACKARROW (Nordenstamm Waldo x Nordenstamm Tess); Arrow kicked yet more goals this weekend gone in passing his operational land search assessment! The team had to use search strategy, map, navigation, communication, first aid and canine welfare skills to locate a missing person in a 47 acre bushland area, in under two hours! Arrow completed the test in 1 hour 10 mins! Angelica wants to thank Search Dogs Sydney for a fantastic two day course in land search prior to the assessments, and to Chris D’Arcy, Adele Jago, Steven Goldsmith from Tasmania and Michael Margot from WA for assessing the team. This now makes the team dual certified in both USAR and LandSAR! Congratulations Angelica and Arrow!

Congratulations Anna and NORDENSTAMM ZARA (Nordenstamm Hassan x Nordenstamm Tess) UD, RAE, UDX, ET – for a new ANKC Dual Championship (RO) title! A wonderful lifetime achievement and not over yet!

Silke writes to say the Tracking and Obedience Champion NORDENSTAMM ASKA (Nordenstamm Tex x Nordenstamm Sanka) T.CH, O.CH, RO.CH, RAE, UDX, TSD,GD are trying their hand at Mondioring in the Far North Queensland Sport Dog Club, a member of Working Malinois Australia. Silke and Aska have always been up for learning new things and this is another adventure the team can do together and Silke reports they are both enjoying every minute of it.

Correspondingly, the ANKC trialing season has started and Aska is doing very great, advancing quickly in the Track & Search. We all hope Aska remains healthy and happy for a bit longer yet – good on you girls!

NORDENSTAMM NAPOLEON A.I. (Baxter Ostraryka x Nordenstamm Crazee) made Northern Territory history today after a pursuit ended in Humpty Doo, where the offender hid in a block of bush and was arrested after making a run for it. Nat cheering Tiger for being the first AND youngest arrest aided by a Malinois in the Northern Territory, reporting Tiger was fast and furious and only 5 month’s old at that!

NEW IGP3 TITLE FOR NORDENSTAMM HEAT ((Lennox v.d. Berlex-Hoeve x Nordenstamm Crazee) at the Fenrir Dogsport Working Trial this weekend. Cheryl and Heat did a great workout earning a respectable 99.87.95 “a” / 281 points VG (Very Good).

NORDENSTAMM GECKYLL (Nordenstamm Prix x Nordenstamm Yves) and Louise can be congratulated for their successful debut  at the Norwest Dog Sport Club trial (Sydney) this week where “Rogue” earned his BH title and was also awarded Best BH! Well done Louise and keep up the good work!

Congratulations Lilly and NORDENSTAMM MISCHA A.I. (Baxter Ostraryka x Nordenstamm Ellie) for winning Best BH Dog at the Dogsport WA working trial in Perth this weekend. This makes Mischa the first dog to be titled from our young Nordenstamm M-Litter – a credit to their family!

NORDENSTAMM BLACKARROW (Nordenstamm Waldo x Nordenstamm Tess). Arrow a multi-talented SAR dog Arrow achieved third place in the morning and second place in the afternoon, plus his first Open pass, at the Easter Obedience Trial in Melbourne. Arrow worked with his customary focus and enthusiasm. Congratulations Angelica!

VALE NORDENSTAMM MAIA A.I. (Daneskjold’s Aragon x Nordenstamm Heidi) 2008 – 2019. Sister and mother of IPO sporting champions, service and Military Working Dogs dogs on two Continents – a much loved family member. End of an era, she will be deeply missed. Our condolences to Mark, Jenny and all the kids Hannah, Thomas and Elizabeth. A grand old lady.

NORDENSTAMM DESS (Nordenstamm Waldo x Nordenstamm Tess) Australian Champion, BH, RN, CCD & new FDCH title for one of the most versatile sporting Malinois in the country. Congratulations of owner/trainer Nikki. The Nordenstamm D-litter was a line-breeding on Australian Grand National Champion Lilo v.d. Krähenschmiede imp. Germany, IPO3. Dess sharing the family glory with 2 x National Champions (in Mondioring & IPO); there are conformation and/or sportdog titled siblings  – Dartagnan, Dixi, Dell and Delta.

NORDENSTAMM DESS (Nordenstamm Waldo x Nordenstamm Tess) At the Sunshine Coast Kennel Clubs All Breeds Show and Dog Sport, Dess was the only dog to enter 3 out of the four Sports available over the weekend! In THE Flyball on Saturday the team came first in their division, then a quick race over to the conformation ring saw the team win Best Neuter of Breed and back again for Sunday’s events Dess was entered in Updog (a cross between Agility and Disc) where she ran two Personal Bests followed by Best Neuter of Breed once again in the conformation ring.

Then at Canungra Show in 2018 Dess won her Division in Flyball and ran a personal best of 4.02 secs and at the All Dogs Sports Spectacular at Dogs Queensland Headquarters the team tried the new sport of Lure Coursing where she ran an entire course on her first outing! The team has also tried their hand at Dock Diving which she took to like a duck to water. Owner/trainer Nikki writes, “I love the versatility of this dog. She has tried everything I have asked of her and still keeps offering more. I love her to bits and the Breed of course.”

NORDENSTAMM BINDI exp. NZ (Nordenstamm Waldo x Nordenstamm Tess) wins the Senior Agility run this month in Timaru, New Zealand. Bindi has come through her levels and just moved up to Seniors and this was her 2nd time in this class. She also got a Challenge. Congratulations Natasha!

Saturday High in Trial Tracking 95 pts, High in Trial Protection 96 pts., and the team repeated the effort on the Sunday with High in Trial Tracking 95 pts, High in Trial Protection 94 pts + High in Trial overall (273pts.) All in all a great effort from Cheryl. Congratulations.

NORDENSTAMM BLACKARROW (Nordenstamm Waldo x Nordenstamm Tess) worked together this month with FEMA instructors, Eric and Tracy Darling from the USA, to complete a program designed to address different urban search and rescue training techniques and deployment. Many thanks to Search and Rescue Dogs Australia (SARDA) for the workshop.  Angelica confirming “Arrow” a top rating performer in agility, directions control and the search elements on various types of very tricky rubble. Congratulations Angelica!

NORDENSTAMM JOEP aka “KUGA” has been posthumously awarded the PDSA Dickin Medal for gallantry! He is the first Australian dog in its 75 year history to be so honoured. Kuga took five bullets from a Taliban’s AK-47 in the course of protecting his unit in Afghanistan.  LT.GEN Rick Burr @ChiefAusArmy wrote: “On behalf of the Australian Army, I wish to acknowledge Special Operations (SAS) Military Working Dog Kuga on being awarded the PDSA Dickin Medal. Known as the Victoria Cross for animals, the award reflects the actions & courage Kuga demonstrated supporting troops on operations in Afghanistan.” RIP Kuga. NB: Kuga is a son of Zico v.d. Berlex-Hoeve out of Nordenstamm Hannah, therefore a line breeding on Turcodos v.d. Duvetorre.

VALE – NORDENSTAMM KAOS 15.12.2007 – 22.10.2018.  Sad of hear of the passing of Military Working Dog, Nordenstamm Kaos, a son of Zico v.d. Berlex-Hoeve out of Nordenstamm Hannah – making him a full brother in blood to the aforementioned Nordenstamm Joep (aka “Kuga”).  Kaos was a leading RAAF stud dog for breeding Military Working Dogs and won the Australian Defense Force’s 2013 Top K9 award that year. RIP Kaos.

NORDENSTAMM CRAZEE A.I. (Nordenstamm Kaos x Lilo v.d. Krähenschmiede) has been artificially inseminated with Baxter Ostraryka (imp. Czech) semen. Puppies are due at the end of November. Crazee is the 2018 National Champion IPO High-in-Trial + 2017, 2018 National FH Champion.

NORDENSTAMM BLACKARROW (Nordenstamm Waldo x Nordenstamm Tess) and Angelica of Southern Cross Search Dogs Victoria participated in a combined agency USAR skills maintenance exercise with he Victoria State Emergency Services. Arrow one of the SAR dogs praised for doing a great job locating all survivors, which were then extracted and rescued by the SES teams.  Officials report the collaboration was invaluable, with a high degree of professionalism and skill shown by all participants.

NORDENSTAMM ASKA earns a new Track and Search title and a new Rally O Champion title! The title needs a lot of qualifications and the team only started last June, whereby Aska went from Novice to Champion in one year! Well done Silke!

RIP NORDENSTAMM HANNABLE i.i.u. Belgium, aka “Tonto”. 2005 – 20018. “Tonto” was a Correctional Services dog from 2006 until he retired to home life in 2014. His handler reported he was “an exceptional dog with an exceptional temperament and there was nothing that he wouldn’t have a go at,” and that in 2011 “Tonto” came equal first in the annual assessments for the State of Queensland where 70 dogs were assessed for Queensland Corrections – an achievement to boast about. Sadly missed. Our commiserations Glen.
